WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT VOTE YES FOR CONTINUED eSPLOST SUCCESS
The 2018 Newton County Citizens eSPLOST Committee requests your assistance in supporting the passage of our 2018 eSPLOST/General Obligation Bond referendum. The many projects supported by this eSPLOST/General Obligation Bond vote will benefit everyone by providing the framework for education to continue to improve in Newton County Schools. These are critical projects to improve education that helps address overcrowding and other needs.
Projects funded by our upcoming Newton County eSPLOST/General Obligation Bond include: replacement of Eastside High School, relocation of Newton County Theme School to Eastside High School, facility maintenance and improvements at existing facilities, purchase of technology, replacement of 45 school buses, improvements to Sharp Stadium and other athletic facilities, band equipment, and furniture replacement.
Projects are proposed for completion with a $123 million extension of eSPLOST. The first part of the referendum involves the renewal of eSPLOST, which the county anticipates generating $60 million from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024 from the continuation of an existing 1% sales tax. These funds will come from sales made within the county. Those sales include people traveling through the county that make purchases, whether they live here or not.
The second part of eSPLOST is $60 million in bonds that will mature in installments between 2023 and 2035 on April 1st of each year. A state capital outlay will pay for the remaining $2.7 million needed to complete the project list.
Join us and the thousands of other Newton County citizens to better our education in the community. eSPLOST helps the county provide a good school system with good facilities, updated technology and enhanced safety. It helps influence the social and economic wellbeing of the community while reducing the likelihood for the need to increase property taxes. It is also critical that the school system is allowed to bond the money needed to build the capital projects like Eastside High School. Without the bonds, our children will be forced to wait up to six years to get the needed school.
We are in need of your support to raise funds to cover the costs of printing signage to place in strategic locations to promote the Yes Vote for Continued eSPLOST Success in Newton County, GA.
